Stunning cape town home!

Cape Town home by SAOTA - Modern bungalow facade

Idyllic views and lush forests are sights that many people do not get to enjoy more of these days and today’s home brings us to the shores of Cape Town in South Africa with this stunning bungalow home feature. The architectural design of this home utilizes a great deal of full height glass panels to soak in the scenery beyond as well as timber blinds and frost glass panels to provide some privacy at areas more accessible to people. It’s simply a grand sight to behold  this modern bungalow design; with its breath taking views  that would be right at home in a travel brochure.

Designed by Stefan Antoni Olmesdahl Truen Architects or SAOTA in short, this home was completed with granite flooring adorning both the first and second levels of this home. Granite is an uncommon material for flooring and you don’t come across houses with granite flooring often. I’ve seen them on kitchen counter tops, but definitely not on floors and i must say that while it may take some getting used to the qualities of granite, it does make for an interesting flooring option.

The architects described their design as:

“The triangular shape of the site, and its elevation above the street and steep incline, required extensive excavation and retaining, in order to provide a driveway of acceptable gradient, and extensive building platform on one level, and garden terraces all round.

The double-winged roof, floating above the bedroom wing, and virtually glass box-enclosed living rooms, are the main architectural features. These are complemented by secondary architectural elements such as the cantilevered end of the main entrance feature wall, the floating stone-clad fireplace, continuous perimeter cantilever terraces to the bedrooms and the wrap-around cantilever eyebrow.”

A mouthful of terms and architectural nuances; and I’m a firm believer of a picture speaks a thousand words, so on with the pics!
